Alchemy

The Alchemy hair and body care product range is based on a totally vegan formula, free of artificial ingredients. Competing brands invariably hide the fine details of artificial ingredients onto the back of the package. The Alchemy package design brought these details boldly to the front of the label to communication the purity of the product ingredients. A unique proprietary bottle was designed for the product range.

Aqua Vital

Research undertaken in the development of the Aqua Vital brand revealed competitor brands had similar looking colour schemes of blue and pastel elements on white or light background. The Aqua Vital brand was designed with a black label theme to stand out from the herd.

Beachhead

Bold patterning was used to evoke a sense of nostalgia for the sun, sea and surf by using a beach-combing collection. Shadows amongst the drawings add a point of interest whilst discerning it from other labels on the shelf.

Bellarmine Wines

Bellarmine is an earthen ware pottery style from the 15th Century, featuring sculptural relief patterns embossed on its side. I used reproductions of these embossings as a basis to then create charcoal rubbings to illustrate this wine packaging range.

Cloudy Bay

The power of the Cloudy Bay brand design is in the vast, clean tracts of textured paper, providing a pure and elegant setting for the majestic Marlborough ranges. The timelessness of the design has enabled it to remain unchanged since its launch in 1986. I illustrated the label in pencil, using a laid paper to pick up the texture. All mandatory information is put to the back label. The Pelorus (dolphin) image was designed as a marque for the Cloudy Bay branded packaging and other Cape Mentelle products.

Crommelin

Crommelin's are an Australian company, providing eco-friendly, water based, proofing and sealing products for the building industry. The company required a point of difference in the market, and the opportunity was to create a powerfully cohesive branding system for a broad range of products. This provided a strong shelf presence, giving the business a strong leading edge.

Devils Lair

Devils Lair takes its name from a cave situated near the vineyard believed to have been inhabited by the elusive Tasmanian Devil several thousand years ago. An indigenous style was used to express the legend.

Dome

Dome required a brand which would infuse a warm sense of history and quality into their cafes. The brand also needed to be suitable for expansion into a franchise business system. At the heart of this brand success is an identity which draws on a rich pallet of nostalgic imagery. The signage, packaging applications and print collateral was piloted initially at the original Cottesloe outlet and has now been applied to over 48 outlets throughout Australia and Asia.

Hayshed Hill

The gothic architectural style of the vineyard's white weatherboard construction led to this design concept representing the combination of Hayshed and winery.

Howard Park Winery

When Howard Park Winery approached me to redesign their brand, the brief called for a metaphor for a park, and we developed the idea of the concept of Eden and the tree of life.

Indis

An Australian themed brand was requited for this wine series destined for export markets. "Indis" was indeed the precursor name for Australia. Mapping and navigational imagery from that age of discovery combines with a navigational star which is playfully positioned to highlight the winery's south-west location.

Kailis Organic Olive Groves

This high profile WA Organic Olive Oil producer, is the largest of its kind in Australia. This Award Winning design combines functionality with tradition and classic style. The white dove and olive branch is a well-known icon, used in this context to symbolise purity and the biblical promise of new land, reflecting the emerging frontier of organic foods being produced in Australia. Printing techniques and materials were applied to convey a natural, earthy ethos for the company.

Leaping Lizard Winery

The charismatic Australian frill necked lizard leaps for joy from the sun cracked surface of this label. Metallic paper stock and foiling and embossing embellishments all come together to bring the lizard into vivid life. The tail is poetically but not too obviously turning to form the letter "L".

Madfish Wines

An indigenous artist was commissioned to create the central image within the design. A packaging format was built around this element incorporating the colours and textures of Australia. It has become an iconic Australian design, and enjoys markets across the USA, Europe and Great Britain.

Matilda Bay Premium

The brief for this flagship pilsner beer brand called for an ultra premium positioning, to compete with high quality international pilsner style beers such as Stella Artois. A special bronze-gold metallic ink formula was mixed to create the warm gold tones in the many brand applications.

Pitchfork

This brand was designed to break some boundaries of conventional wine packaging. It needed to appeal to a young market, interested in something outside of the highbrow wine scene. The classic wine packaging conventions were deconstructed to create a rebellious and distinctive brand.

Punch Coffee

Pulcinella was a humorous clown who appeared in the theatres of Italy in the 17th Century. As time passed, his fame spread throughout Europe, reaching Great Britain where the "funny fellow" was transformed into a street puppet and renamed "Punch". Today the legend of this lively entertainer lives on in Punch Special Reserve Coffee. The diamond pattern used across the brand applications is a reference to Punch's harlequin suit. Inherently loud, this pattern serves to convey the coffee's strength and flavour.

Redback Beer

There are few beers in Australia that are as iconic as RedBack beer. As one can no longer draw an apple with a bite taken out of it without it immediately representing "Apple Computers", so a single downward brush stroke of paint is clearly representative of the RedBack brand. This simple, elegant solution has become instantly recognisable icon in Australia. The design is glazed onto the glass during bottle production. Recycled card is used in printed packaging and branded support materials.

Splish

The packaging for this certified organic olive oil required an environmentally friendly solution. A revolutionary new format of packaging olive oil, using recyclable soft pack technology, was employed enabling the product to have a low carbon footprint for export, and a recyclable, flat pack, perfect for shipping internationally.

Suckfizzle

Janice McDonald's excellent reputation as a premium wine maker precedes her, so the branding for her own line of wines was an opportunity to play to the market's anticipation. I designed the angelic foot descending from the heavens to crush the vintage as a playful use of classical art style to convey surreal comedy.
